As a leading county in the region, Fairfax County's recent adoption of LEED standards for new construction is a timely topic for local architects and planners. Gross and Zook will provide an overview of Fairfax County's environmental and green building goals as well as the specifics of how green building policies have been implemented in the County. Learn how the adoption of LEED standards is helping to achieve Fairfax County's goals and to create a better built environment for its citizens. An examination of specific LEED certified buildings in the County will be discussed as case studies.

The General Services Administration has been at the forefront of implementing sustainable building legislation and requiring measurement tools such as LEED. Find out why and how GSA has implemented these requirements and learn of the successes and challenges that have occurred during this time. Examples from the GSA book Sustainability Matters will be showcased.

Davis Carter Scott has designed green buildings and interior spaces totaling over seven million square feet using the LEED rating system and other green building metric. Since the introduction of LEED, we have seen an evolution in the approach to designing buildings as well as in the mind-set of our clients. This presentation will showcase trends that are occurring with sustainability and the pros and cons of the LEED rating system. Pitfalls and opportunities that we have encountered along the way will also be discussed.
