Moisture Performance Comparison of Typical Residential Wall Assemblies
An independent 3rd party building products laboratory, a wholly owned subsidiary of the country's pre-eminent trade association for the housing
industry has recently completed a year-long field moisture study entitled "Moisture Performance Comparison of Typical Residential Wall Assemblies."
The project's objective was to determine how exterior cladding can impact the moisture content of the wooden components in the wall construction,
and the research was funded by the Brick Industry Association, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Forest Products Laboratory, and the U.S.
Department of Housing and Urban Development. The results are in. Of the eight wall systems tested, which account for roughly 90% of the cladding
systems used today, brick veneer wall assemblies performed the best overall in controlling moisture. To download a complete copy of this report,

Education
Home Builder Seminar
This program has been specifically created for builders to better understand important aspects of brick masonry construction. Developed by master
masons and BIA technical staff, it provides the most up-to-date information on brick construction. Practical knowledge and hands-on demonstrations
clearly explain how brick should be installed to result in a durable, trouble-free wall system. The seminar is complimentary and comes at no cost to
attendees.

Sustainability and Green Building Design
Today, clay brick has proven its contributing role in green building and sustainable design. Having been used as a building material for thousands
of years, brick is made primarily from clay and shale, two of the most abundant natural resources. Brick also contributes to sustainable design
through its long life span, energy efficiency, durability, recycled content, local availability, acoustic insulation, low construction waste, and potential
for reuse. Finally, modern brick manufacturing incorporates many sustainable practices of its own and has captured great production efficiencies
that reduce its environmental impact.
Clay Brick Pavers
In the U.S., Americans have used clay brick pavers since the earliest colonial days. Some pavers are still in
service after 200 years. Today, many architects, homeowners, builders, designers and city planners prefer
clay brick pavers over other surfaces because of their superior color retention, unmatched durability, strength,
design options and low maintenance. For homeowners, clay pavers can transform garden pathways,
driveways and patios.
For larger hardscape projects, today's flexible paving systems are an ideal surface for adding warmth,
elegance and smoothness to sidewalks, patios, plazas and roadways that handle vehicular traffic. Genuine
clay brick is also environmentally-friendly and an excellent long term value.
